Social

The social side of my life involves anything that makes me smile.  Those include the sports that I play, my extracurricular activitiesbackpacking to other countries, or simply things that I enjoy doing at home.

Of course, my friends also make me smile, but they are uncomfortable with me putting links to their Facebook pages like I have done below…

Being social to me can also mean talking to complete strangers and sharing stories – which I am sort of doing right now through this website!  I remember once in Italy I was going to Pisa to see the leaning tower (is there anything else to see?…) when the lady across from me started asking me what I was doing.  After we found a common language in French (since I speak no Italian) we talked for the entire rest of the way.  She even gave me an elephant statue as a gift!

Now I’m not saying that I talked to people for the sole purpose of getting free stuff – I can do that at company info sessions and trade shows.  What I’m suggesting is that from time to time we remember that we are genetically 99.9% similar and that we should explore those similarities together, rather than being afraid of them or focusing on the 0.01% that makes us different from each other.  That last bit was inspired from Bill Clinton’s speech at Harvard University – a worthy clip to watch.
