Au fait

I remember when I got a D in my Economiques et Politiques class on exchange at HEC Paris.  The fact that I probably spelt the name of that course wrong should be an indication of why I got a D.

Today reminded me a bit of those days when I would copy and paste the entire lecture into Google Translate.  We waded into OO Javascript and I felt as if I was learning a whole new language by jumping into the deep end.  At about 4pm, something clicked, and I started to swim.  I finished redoing my Tortoise and the Hare game in Javascript in two hours.  It was just like that day when I started to dream in French – it just clicked.

Maybe the first thing schools should do when kids arrive in Kindergarten is to assess how they learn.  Like the sorting hat in Harry Potter.  Visual learners go into the Gryffindor House.  Kinaesthetic learners go into the the Slytherin House.  And… who cares about the other houses.

Maybe that way kids will feel like they’re dreaming of what they learn all the way through school as opposed to simply falling asleep.
