Wenever there's new content, I'll let you know in a fun and entertaining manner :) My mom's on this list, so trust me, I won't be spammy.
They say that shooting a basketball is as easy as pretending to reach into a cookie jar on a high shelf. I don’t know about you, but Michael Jordan doesn’t really look like he’s simply reaching into a cookie jar to me. Actually, it kinda looks like he’s trying to stop the cookie jar from falling off the shelf.
Today was the first time I played basketball in a long time and I realized how much I missed it. It was a 3-on-3 and the teams were evenly split. I would say I’m much more competent at basketball than I am at coding. I used to spend hours each day in front of my house shooting hoops with friends (or, if they weren’t there, imagining plays in my head). I would probably tell somebody that shooting is easy – just imagine reaching into a cookie jar.
There are some people that would probably say that learning rails is as easy as watching some videos and looking up the docs. I think for me, I need the constant practice – the endless hours of pounding away until I drain that all-so-satisfying shot exactly the way I imagined I would.
I’m excited to be learning the cool moves now at Dev Bootcamp – I can’t wait to play some more. I definitely need to incorporate the basketball pickup culture into the way I code. I should just randomly grab a few friends, go somewhere nearby, and code up some app. Then, after, we can reminisce the good plays, the bad shots, and trash talk for the next game. I think that’s how I will be able to reach into the coding cookie jar.
